The transfer effect is a phenomenon where improvements in cognitive skills, achieved through a specific software programme, translate into measurable changes in real-world scenarios.
ENHANCE was recently put to the test during a programme at a British International School where participating pupils showed significant improvements in cognitive functions such as attention, processing speed, social cognition, spatial intelligence, and executive function.
Do these improvements transfer to the real world? Or did pupils just get better at the games?
The transfer effect was measured using GL Assessment’s PASS Survey (Pupil Attitude to Self and School). The results showed that the cognitive improvements achieved during the ENHANCE training were not confined to the programme but had real-world implications. It positively affected students' attitudes toward school, learning, and their self-perception as learners.
The next challenge for ENHANCE is to make the programme accessible to as many people as possible. Up until now it has only been available to children and young people through forward thinking schools that have seen its potential. However, this is no longer the case and ENHANCE is available to all children and their families.
The ENHANCE: Family Edition was created so that families can also benefit from neurocognitive training. With this version, parents and grandparents can improve their cognitive skills whilst also supporting their children's learning and progress through the 12 week programme.
This intergenerational training offers additional benefits that are not available to families when it is just children and young people who are involved. Communication, empathy, collaboration and family bonds are all enhanced as part of the experience. Parents and grandparents can also share related wisdom from their life experiences and children can assist older generations in terms of digital skills and using all features of the platform.
For parents and grandparents who wish to go even further, there are additional ways to extend the impact of the programme. Engaging in family activities like board games, storytelling sessions, or planning family outings can provide opportunities to discuss how cognitive skills are applied in real world situations, strengthening the transfer effect.
The ENHANCE: Family Edition opens up a new opportunity for parents to engage in their child’s learning and development whilst also supporting their own parents with a proven cognitive improvement programme. The first cohort of this shared and enriching experience is enrolling now with a programme start date of 24 September 2023.
